Fred D. (Tony) Thompson II, Esq.
Tony Thompson comes from a family with a rich multi-generational heritage of advocacy involving the law, politics and government. In 1992 Thompson began the practice of law under his father’s tutelage, but it wasn’t long after when he found himself traveling the state as a key surrogate speaker campaigning to get his father elected to the United States Senate in 1994. In 1995 Thompson embarked on his own career practicing law and naturally turned his focus to the area where law, government and politics intersect. Over the years he has developed a successful government relations and lobbying practice, is well respected in his profession** and is ranked among the best lobbyists in Tennessee.
In his nearly three decades of experience Thompson has represented his clients with integrity and determination at the local, state and federal levels of government. He serves as lead strategist and advocate on a wide variety of issues for a wide variety of clients - both public and private interests. He serves every type and size of client from individuals and small businesses to global companies and national and state trade associations.
Thompson has a reputation for professionalism, persistence and perseverance and is not afraid to take on an unpopular position. He is loyal to and passionate about his client’s and their issues and is in it with them for the long haul. Some clients have been with him for over two decades and he has represented many more for a decade at a time. Throughout his career Thompson has had leadership roles in passing numerous pieces of complicated legislation, negotiating legislative proposals increasing or protecting millions of dollars in client revenue, shepherding bills and grassroots efforts stopping legislative and administrative regulation, defeating onerous bills adverse to his clients and securing key provisions in the administrative rule-making process.
Thompson’s effectiveness for his clients is the result of years of establishing trust and credibility with Tennessee decision makers, his ability to adapt to changes, develop strategic coalitions and partners and his willingness to go above and beyond the call for his clients. Above all else he believes in plain old hard work and that there is no substitute for it. No one will out work him on an issue.
